Tiafoe stuns Zverev; Barty ousted Williams on Wednesday

WTA NO. 1 UPDATE

Wednesday’s results reduced the number of players who held # 1 after that week from five to three. Angelique Kerber was eliminated by her loss and Caroline Wozniacki’s chance ended with Karolina Pliskova’s current win. About the Western & Southern Open

The Western & Southern Open will be held August 12-20, 2017 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center, 20 miles north of Cincinnati in Mason, OH. The tournament is one of the most prestigious ATP Masters 1000 events on the men’s tour and a Premier 5 event for the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). This makes it one of only five events worldwide outside of the Grand Slams with events of this caliber in the same week at the same location. The tournament is also one of the last stops in the US Open Series before the US Open in New York. Since 1974, the tournament has donated more than $ 10 million directly to its beneficiaries: the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Barrett Cancer Center, and Tennis for City Youth.

About PAUL FLORY. He expanded the sport. He dedicated himself to the “Cincy” tournament. He had a passion few mortals have.

He was one of the world’s top tournament directors and promoters. His tournament at CINCY attracts tennis fans from all over the country. Difficult with about 15 states around it. It is also very popular with people from all over the world. The event is fabulous. Paul is gone. But his legacy will last forever. He never paid a salary. Nothing for decades. For his entire career, actually.

He built the sport against greedy, lazy “undertakers” who had lost their tournaments in America. Why do I call them undertakers? Easy. You kill the sport. Tennis needs its patrons.
