Big Red Machine (aka Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and Aaron Dessner of The National) will release a new album, How Long Do You Think It’s Gonna Last? On August 27 on 37d03d. The album was only announced yesterday, but they have already shared their second single “The Ghost of Cincinnati” with lead vocals from Dessner. Listen down below.
Dessner said on Instagram about the song: “It’s about someone who feels like a ghost, sneaks through the streets of his hometown, questions the past and thinks about his fate – something I can identify with very much. I can imagine that this is a bit about myself, or about friends I’ve lost, or about someone who overwhelmed himself and spent too much until he lost everything, empty and hollow as a ghost. ”
Yesterday the band shared the album’s first single, “Latter Days,” which features guest vocals from Anaïs Mitchell. The album also includes Fleet Foxes, Taylor Swift, Sharon Van Etten, This Is the Kit, and others.
How long do you think it will take? is the follow-up to their self-titled debut album, which was released in 2018. Dessner produced the album and it was recorded at his Long Pond studio in Upper Hudson Valley, NY.
Dessner, who sings lead vocals for the first time on three tracks on the album, said in a press release: “This is all music that I originally made and with which I feel emotionally connected, but it was very interesting to hear how different people deal with it and how different voices collide with it. That’s what makes it special. Everyone who is on this record has an openness, a creative generosity and an emotional quality that connects everything. “
