SCOUTING COLUMBUS CREW (6-6-9 – 24 pts – 9th, Eastern Conference)
Columbus was a different team in 2021 than the squad that won the MLS Cup last season. The talent and quality of the team remain high, but after six defeats in a row, the crew needs a result.

Lucas Zelarayán will lead the team with six goals in 2021, and his two assists are just behind Pedro Santos (three) for the club management.

Hometown Hagglund approaches milestone – Cincinnati FC defender Nick Hagglund from Queen City made his 49th appearance for Orange and Blue last time in New England. This is the highest in FCC history, an appearance on Friday would make him the first player in the club’s history to appear in 50 MLS games.

Acosta offers – Midfielder Luciano Acosta set up Brenner’s 54th-minute goal last time and has given him five assists so far this season. That number matches him with Emmanuel Ledesma (2019) for the most assists in a single season, as well as in an FCC jersey overall.

Hell is real –This derby match is one of the most intense in the entire MLS, and according to head coach Jaap Stam, this game could have a little more flavor:

“It will be another intense meeting. It has always been that way, but the importance of the game itself is very important in terms of where both teams are and what they want to do and achieve.

“In addition, the derby is getting bigger and bigger in the future, so this particular game also has a little more tension. These games are not just about the result … but also about the pride and honor of the team itself. That’s the way it should be. I think it has to be a game that is played with a lot of passion and hopefully quality too. “
