Chicago [US]Jun 5 (ANI / Xinhua): Two people were killed and three others were injured in a shooting on Sunday (local time) in a park in downtown Cincinnati, a city in the U.S. state of Ohio.
Cincinnati Police have identified the two dead as 16-year-olds and 19-year-olds. The three injured were taken to the hospital. The police did not provide any information about a suspect until Monday morning.
According to a police press release, the shooting occurred at around 11pm on Sunday (0400 GMT Monday) during an “Independence Day” celebration when about 400 teenagers gathered in the park.
It was not known whether the shots were random or aimed, the police said.
According to an analysis by the Washington Post using data from the Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit research organization, firearms killed more than 8,100 people in the U.S. in the first five months of 2021, averaging about 54 per day.
That’s 14 more deaths per day than the average over the same period over the past six years. (ANI / Xinhua)
